This site was created to give the parents of exceptional children the tools to get the appropriate education and services for their kids. Sometimes this is easy but many times it is very difficult. If you are having difficulty, check out this site for resources you can use. If you still have questions, let us know. If we can't help you, we'll point you in the right direction.
The maze of Special Education regulations and laws can be confusing and complicated. Perhaps your child has a special need which has not been identified. Or, maybe she already has an IEP but it may not be doing the job. Whatever your concerns, we have resources that may help you. If you have any questions, email or call us and we'd be happy to assist you.
- Some kids need special accommodations for taking standardized tests, like the SAT's or Licensing Exams. Special needs change over time and reasonable accommodations are the law.
- School discipline is something that no parent wants their child to have trouble with. Unfortunately, sometimes children who learn differently express their frustration by acting out or "misbehaving". There are limits on what schools can do to discipline a child with an identified disability.
- "Zero Tolerance" policies often trap the kids who had no intention of doing anything "wrong". If your child is on the receiving end of a mandatory expulsion, he has rights.
- Check out our sister website at www.penglaseandbenson.com where you can learn more about all of our experienced attorneys.
- Read the Blog. It will have at least weekly updates on important and current topics in special education. Subscribe to our RSS feeds (just click the button) and you will get an email everytime the journal is updated.
- Please read all you can and educate yourself. We've put some links on this site to other sites we find helpful and informative, but we have no control over the content of those sites. The more you know about a topic, the better an advocate you can be for your child. But, please don't rely on information on this website as legal advice. Just remember that this website does not create what we call an attorney-client relationship, including email you may send to us. That can only happen once we have entered into a written representation agreement. This protects you and us from any misunderstandings.
- Let us know how you like the site and if we can help you. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
